Artist's Description
Here is my colored pencil drawing of the Horse van made which was made exclusively for Calumet Farm by General Motors in 1939. I modeled this from a photo by Joyce Johnson and a photo in the archives of the digital library of the University of Kentucky, used with permission of both.
Calumet Farm is a Thoroughbred breeding and training farm established in 1924 in Lexington, KY by William Monroe Wright, founding owner of the Calumet Baking Powder Company. Calumet is located in the heart of the Bluegrass, a well-known horse breeding region. Calumet Farm has a record history of eight Kentucky Derby winners and two Triple Crown winners (Whirlaway and Citation) and for over 87 years; it has produced some of the greatest Thoroughbred horses of all time.

About David Neace CPX

I learned the basics of drawing from my father and I taught myself to work in many mediums before finding my “niche” which are colored pencils. I like to research my subjects and present them with some background as to where and when. I draw landscapes, cityscapes, cars, trucks, vans, flowers and even the occasional person. I have a wide variety of subjects for your viewing pleasure. I am a juried member of the Kentucky Crafted program and Colored Pencil Society of America. My work has appeared on magazine covers and in instructional books. The...
