Description
A journey through the mists of time. This art was drawn from a rare photo taken in 1912 that is in my fathers photo collection as it comes into Versailles Ky.
This 4-4-0 Pittsburgh steam train ran from Versailles to Midway and Georgetown then back again. This line was started in 1888 and ran until 1936 when it was abandoned and the track torn up. This is the paragraph on this train from the Manual of the Railroads of the United States, Issue 22 and dated February 11, 1889.
President..............W. H. Grady and
C. M. Browning.....General Freight and Passngr Mgt.
Supt and Secy.......Robt Wallace
J.P. Amsdee..........Treasurer
General Offices.....Versailles, Ky
Trains leave Versailles for Midway (8 miles) and Georgetown (18 miles) at 6:00 AM, 1:00 PM and 1:10 PM. Returning, leaves Georgetown 7:00 AM, 2:50 PM and 7:10 PM. Leaves Versailles for Midway, 10:00 AM, leaves Midway for Versailles 10:40 AM. Daily service expect Sunday.
Connection with Louisville and Nashville RR. Connection with Cincinnati, New Orleans and Texas Pacific RR.
The tracks long gone, only the people that live along this old route will see the few overpasses and the track bed. Wrapping the train in clouds and water gives the viewer a sense of time and passage. Like the images from our past, this one floats in and out of reality.
Thanks for viewing.
